Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then found multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.

An important official commented the attack made him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
